The fuller answer
Erections commonly occur during sleep, especially during REM sleep, and a person may wake during or shortly after one. Morning erections do not require a sexual dream, attraction, a full bladder, or conscious desire.
Frequency varies. Sleep quality, stress, medications, illness, puberty stage, and whether someone wakes during a particular sleep phase all affect what they notice. Not remembering morning wood for a while does not by itself diagnose erectile dysfunction or low testosterone.
The useful question is whether there is pain, an erection lasts too long, or there is a broader pattern of sexual-function concern in an adult. Teen bodies should not be monitored like daily performance tests.
